Ruling on the zakah of orphans' wealth
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A man died and left behind wealth and orphans. Is there zakah due on this wealth? If so, who is responsible for paying it?
A: Zakah is obligatory on the orphans' wealth, including currency and goods prepared for trade, livestock that graze freely, and grains and fruits on which zakah is due. The orphans' guardian must pay it at the proper time. If they have no guardian from the side of their deceased father, the matter must be brought to the court so that a guardian is appointed to manage their affairs and their wealth. He must fear Allah in this and act in what is best for them and their wealth. This is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted: [al-Baqarah: 220], and His saying: [al-An'am: 152]. There are many verses in this meaning.
The lunar year for their wealth is calculated from the time their father died, because upon his death the wealth entered their ownership. And success is from Allah.
