Question: Is Hajj an immediate obligation or a deferred one?
Answer: Hajj is obligatory for the one who is accountable, immediately, provided he has the ability. If he is able, Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: : [Al-Imran: 97]. Thus, Hajj is the fifth pillar of the pillars of Islam, and it is obligatory with the ability. As for the one who is unable, there is no Hajj upon him. But if he is able with his body and his wealth, it is obligatory upon him. And if he is able with his wealth, but not with his body because he is old or sick with no hope of recovery, he must appoint someone to perform Hajj on his behalf.
Answer: Hajj is obligatory for the one who is accountable, immediately, provided he has the ability. If he is able, Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: :
And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves - then indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds.
