Explanation of the author's statement: "And the records are spread out" — and they are the scrolls of deeds
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then the author moved on to another scene, which is the scrolls of deeds, and he said: "And the records are spread out", meaning: they are dispersed.
"The records" is the plural of *diwan*, and a *diwan* is the register in which deeds are written, such as the records of the treasury and the like.
So the records are spread out. He said: "And they are the scrolls of deeds".
Who wrote them? The angels assigned to the deeds of the children of Adam wrote them[Al-Infitar 82:9-12].
So this deed is written, and it becomes binding upon the person in his neck. Then when the Day of Resurrection comes, Allah brings out this book and says to him:[Al-Isra 17:14]. Allah is the Greatest!
Some of the Salaf said: "He has been just to you who made you an accountant for yourself". And this is correct. The person says, "Take the notebook and you are the one who accounts for yourself." There is no doubt that this is justice, meaning it is not he who is being accounted for. You account for yourself with what was written for you. No person can deny it. And if the disbelievers deny and say:[Ya-Sin 36:64-65], and likewise their skins speak and testify [Fussilat 41:21]. So a person, in the face of this written record, cannot deny it. And if he denies it, his limbs and his skin testify against him. Yes. [An-Nur 24:24-25].
These records are spread out, and they are the scrolls of deeds.
And the writing in them is either good deeds or bad deeds. So what is written from the good deeds? What the person did is written, what he did is written, what he intended, and what he resolved. Yes, all of it is written.
As for what he did, it is clear that it is written.
As for what he resolved, it is written, but only the full reward of the intention is written for him, as in the authentic hadith about the man who had wealth to spend in the cause of Allah. The poor man said, "If I had so-and-so's wealth, I would do in it what so-and-so does." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Ibn Majah 4228Sahih, Sahih (Darussalam) According to his intention, not his deed.
And it indicates that they are not equal in reward in terms of the deed: when the poor Muhajireen came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! The people of wealth have outpaced us," he said to them:Sunan an-Nasa'i 1349Sahih (Darussalam). When the rich people heard that, they did the same. So the poor people returned complaining to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said to them: Sunan Ibn Majah 1973Sahih (Darussalam). And he did not say, "You have caught up with their deed by your intentions." And because this is justice: a man who did not do a deed is not like the one who did it and benefited people, but by his intention he is like him in intention.
The third: if he intended something and sought its means but did not attain it, then the full reward is written for him, by the saying of the Exalted:[An-Nisa 4:100].
And this is glad tidings for students of knowledge. If a person intends to seek knowledge, wanting to benefit people with his knowledge, defend the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and spread the religion of Allah on earth, and then he is not able to do so, for example by dying while in his work and seeking, then the reward of what he intended and sought is written for him. Because this man sought and did the cause, but Allah the Exalted, by His wisdom, did not let him reach his objective. So the one who prevented him from his objective is Allah the Exalted by a decree in which the person has no choice, and He completes the reward for him.[An-Nisa 4:100].
Indeed, if a person's habit is to do a deed, and he is prevented from it for a reason, his reward is written for him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:.
All of this is written for the person: the deed he executed, the one he sought but did not attain, and the one he intended but did not seek because he had no means to seek with, until it is said that his reward is completed for him.
As for the bad deeds, the bad deeds are the same thing. What the person did is written for him, and it is also written for him. What the person did is written for him, and what he intended and sought but did not attain is written for him, and what he intended is written for him.
The first: it is clear. A man intended to steal and stole, intended to commit zina and committed zina, intended to drink intoxicants and drank intoxicants. This thing is written for him.
The second: he sought it but did not attain it, and it is written for him in full, by the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Ibn Majah 3964Sahih (Darussalam). For this reason, he has a dagger or knife and wants to kill, but he is unable to.
And like him is the one who intended to drink intoxicants. The intoxicants were ready, but a preventer occurred for him, such as people being present with whom he could not drink intoxicants. So the full burden is written for him or written against him, because he sought it.
The second: the one who intended it. This is written for him, but by the intention. And from this is the hadith in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed about a man to whom Allah gave wealth, and he was stumbling in it. So a poor man said, "If I had so-and-so's wealth, I would do in it what so-and-so does." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Ibn Majah 4228Sahih, Sahih (Darussalam). Meaning by the intention.
Did we say the third? The third. This is the intention. Yes. Correct, this is three: he did it, he intended it and sought the cause in the deed but it was not completed, and he intended it.
Now, if he intended the bad deed but left it, is he rewarded? We say: this is in three categories:
If he left it due to inability, he is like the worker who sought it.
And if he left it for the sake of Allah, he is rewarded.
And if he left it because his soul turned away from it, not for Allah and not due to inability, then there is no sin on him and no reward, because he did not leave it for Allah and did not leave it due to inability.
The important thing is that these things are written.
And Allah the Exalted rewards with good deeds more than the deed, and does not reward with bad deeds except like the deed. He said, the Exalted:[Al-An'am 6:160].
And this is from His generosity, the Exalted, and from the fact that His mercy precedes His anger. Otherwise, if the person were treated with justice, what would the good deed be? One good deed, just as the bad deed is one bad deed, or the bad deed would be ten bad deeds, just as the good deed is ten good deeds. But Allah the Exalted bestows favor upon His servants, treating the wrongdoer with justice and the doer of good with favor. Good.

[It will be said], "Read your record. Sufficient is yourself against you this Day as accountant."

ذلك فضل الله يؤتيه من يشاءThe third: if he intended something and sought its means but did not attain it, then the full reward is written for him, by the saying of the Exalted:
And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to Allah and His Messenger and then death overtakes him - his reward has already become incumbent upon Allah
And this is glad tidings for students of knowledge. Whoever falls ill or travels, it is written for him what he used to do while healthy and resident.
من مرض أو سافر، كتب له ما كان يعمل صحيحا مقيماًAll of this is written for the person: the deed he executed, the one he sought but did not attain, and the one he intended but did not seek because he had no means to seek with, until it is said that his reward is completed for him.
