(Steadfastness in the face of the people of innovation) and keep them occupied in the debate with one another*** for that is the wisdom of the knights, and if they charge at you, do not be*** panicked.

The Shaykh : The author (may Allah have mercy on him) explained to us that fighting these people is to strike the words of some of them with the words of others. For example, these theologians are not on one path; rather, their paths are contradictory. Indeed, one of them says, "This is something that reason necessitates," while the second says, "This is something that reason forbids." He is not answering; he is forbidding it. He said (may Allah have mercy on him): "Strike the words of some of them with the words of others, for that will cause some of them to be occupied with others." For example, this one who says, "This is obligatory by reason... by reason, leave him... incite some of them against others... let the one who said it is impossible refute the one who said it is obligatory, and the one who said it is obligatory refute the one who said it is impossible... Yes, and this is a policy, even in military matters today: the policy of keeping people occupied with one another... Yes, this... the people of the Sunnah and the community with the people of kalam. And for this reason, you will find the Shaykh al-Islam (may Allah have mercy on him) sometimes presenting the invalidity of their statement by showing it is contradictory, and then saying: "So-and-so, who is one of their leaders, said such and such," and "The other, who is also one of their leaders, said such and such." What does this indicate? It indicates the contradiction. And the contradiction of a statement is the strongest proof of its invalidity.
He also said (may Allah have mercy on him): "Be steadfast, but if you wish to charge, it is better not to charge unless you have troops with you to help you, for charging without troops is not praiseworthy. Charging without troops is not praiseworthy... The author's statement here may mean that he wants by 'troops' the scholars who help and assist you, and it may mean that he wants by it weapons, meaning do not charge except with knowledge. But his final statement supports the first possibility. And for this reason, he said: "So if you see the band of Islam has *** joined its armies with the sultan, then there, break through".
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Its armies, yes.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : There is a break in it...
The student: ...

The Shaykh : The people, the creation.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : The author says... Yes.
