The Shaykh : This is correct. This is a refutation of those who say that the Muslims conquered the lands by weapons and war. This is the claim of the enemies of the Muslims, because if they say this, it means that the Muslims were tyrants and aggressors who conquered the lands by the force of weapons. This is what only our enemies, the Orientalists and their followers, have said. So by what did they conquer the lands? By deeds. And by what did they conquer the hearts? By knowledge. When the disbelievers in the era of the Companions saw what their tyrants and rulers were doing to them—enslaving them and humiliating them—and saw what the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were like, and that their leader, the highest authority among them, had a patched garment, slept in the mosque on a dune of sand, and had no guard. Yes, and the young and the old would speak to him, and he would preach to the people, and a woman would respond to him, and so on. Do souls, by their original fitrah (innate natural disposition), accept these people and not reject them? They accept them. By Allah, their hearts opened before the lands opened. These noble deeds and excellent morals conquered the lands, not by the multitude of numbers or the strength of equipment. If we compare the multitude of numbers and the strength of... which is greater? The enemies were many times more numerous without reckoning, and likewise in equipment. But they conquered the lands with these deeds, and they conquered the hearts by what? By knowledge and faith. Not... Yes.
