The author, Ibn Malik (may Allah have mercy on him), said in the Alfiyyah: "The Beginning". This title refers to the beginning of the beginning. As for it being a beginning, this is in terms of the structure of the sentence. As for it being a beginning [of the subject matter], it is from this chapter that structures begin, and the benefit of grammar, because everything that came before was in the singulars. From now on, it is in the structures. And he said: "The Beginning", and he did not say "The Subject and the Predicate" as others have said, for the sake of brevity, and because the beginning necessitates the subject, and the subject necessitates the predicate, so he was content with mentioning the beginning instead of mentioning the subject and the predicate, due to the interdependence.
