The obligation regarding the matter of the names and attributes.

The Shaykh : And what is obligatory for us regarding the verses of the attributes, as we have said many times, is to take them in their apparent meaning, but on the condition that this apparent meaning is befitting of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and does not necessitate comparing Allah to creation, likening Allah to creation, or asking how an attribute is. Do you understand? Why? Because Allah speaks about Himself, and He is the most knowledgeable about Himself, and it is not possible for Him to speak about Himself with an attribute while intending the opposite of it, because that would be contrary to clear explanation. And Allah the Exalted says in the Qur'an: And this is necessary for those who distort [the meaning], it is necessary for them. So we say: the obligation regarding what Allah has informed us about Himself of names and attributes is to take them in their apparent meaning and their reality, but it is obligatory for us to remove from our minds the issue of likening Allah to creation, comparing Allah to creation, or asking how an attribute is. These cannot revolve around our minds, because Allah is too great to be compared to creation, and because He said (Glorified and Exalted is He): [Ash-Shuraa 42:11] He is too great to be asked how [His attributes are], because if He were asked how, it would mean the mind encompassing Him, and Allah says: [Taha 20:110].
