Ruling on Wearing Two Sandals or Leather Socks for the One in Ihram

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: If a man or woman in ihram wears two sandals or leather socks, whether he is ignorant, knowledgeable, or forgetful, does his ihram become invalid by any of that?

Answer: The Sunnah is for the man to enter ihram wearing two sandals; because it was reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Let one of you enter ihram in an izar (waist wrapper) and a rida' (cloak) and two sandalsليحرم أحدكم في إزار ورداء ونعلين
Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 7:91
So it is better to enter ihram in two sandals to protect against thorns, the scorching heat, and cold things. If he does not enter ihram in two sandals, there is no blame on him. If he cannot find two sandals, it is permissible for him to enter ihram in leather socks.
Should he cut them or not? There is a disagreement among the scholars. It is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Anyone that cannot find sandals can wear leather socks, but he should cut them off below the ankles.من لم يجد نعلين فليلبس خفين وليقطعهما أسفل من الكعبين
Muwatta Malik 20:9
. And it was reported from him in his sermon during the Farewell Pilgrimage at 'Arafah that he ordered whoever could not find two sandals to wear leather socks, but he did not order them to be cut. So the scholars differed on this, and some of them said: The first command is abrogated, so he may wear them without cutting them.
And others said: It is not abrogated, but it is for recommendation, not obligation, as evidenced by his silence regarding it at 'Arafah.
The stronger view, if Allah wills, is that the cutting is abrogated; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the people at 'Arafah, and a large gathering of people from the city and the countryside attended his sermon, including those who had not attended his sermon in the city where he ordered the cutting. If the cutting had been obligatory or prescribed, he would have clarified it for the Ummah. So when he remained silent about it at 'Arafah, it indicated that it is abrogated, and that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) forgave and excused the servants regarding the cutting, because of the damage it causes to the leather sock.
As for the woman, there is no blame on her if she wears leather socks or shoes; because she is an 'awrah (part of the body that must be covered). But she is prevented from two things: the niqab (face veil) and the gloves; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the woman in ihram from that, and he said:
The woman in ihram does not wear the niqab and does not wear glovesلا تنتقب المرأة ولا تلبس القفازين
The niqab is the thing made for the face, like the burqu' (full face veil), so she should not wear it while in ihram. But she must cover her face with whatever she wishes in the presence of non-mahram men; because her face is an 'awrah. If she is away from men, she may uncover her face, and it is not permissible for her to put on the niqab or the burqu'. It is not permissible for her to wear gloves, which are coverings made for the hands, so the woman in ihram and the man in ihram should not wear them. But she should cover her hands and face when necessary with something other than the niqab and gloves; because it is established from 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: "We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in ihram, and when men came near us, one of us would lower her jilbab (outer garment) over her face, and when they moved away from us, we would uncover it." And success is from Allah.
