The deeds of the child are for him, and his father is rewarded for teaching him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: Are the deeds of a child who has not reached puberty, such as prayer, Hajj, and recitation, all for his parents? Or are they counted for him?

Answer: The deeds of a child who has not reached puberty—meaning his righteous deeds—are for him, not for his father or anyone else. However, his father is rewarded for teaching him, guiding him to good, and helping him with it. This is based on what is in Sahih Muslim from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that a woman brought a child to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during the Farewell Pilgrimage and said: “O Messenger of Allah, does this child have a Hajj?” He said:
Yes, and you have a rewardنعم ولك أجر
. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that the Hajj is for the child, and his mother is rewarded for her Hajj with him.
Likewise, a parent has a reward for the good he does, such as teaching the orphans, relatives, servants, and others among the people who are under his care. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer.من دل على خير فله مثل أجر فاعله
Sahih Muslim 1893a
, narrated by Muslim in his Sahih. And because this is part of cooperating in righteousness and piety, and Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) rewards for that.
