The Permissibility of Taking a Wage for Teaching the Qur'an

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on taking a wage for teaching the Noble Qur'an in Qur'an memorization schools?

Answer:
There is no blame on him for that—in the correct view—and there is nothing wrong with it; because taking a wage helps him to continue teaching and to be patient with it. Also, many people may not be able to teach without something, because they have no income to sustain their livelihood so that they can devote themselves to teaching. If he is given a wage for that, he will devote himself to teaching and benefit the people.
Al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
You are most entitled to take wages for doing a Ruqya with Allah's Book.إن أحق ما أخذتم عليه أجرًا كتاب الله
Sahih al-Bukhari 5737
. This includes teaching, so teaching is the most important thing sought; that is, teaching people, guiding them, and directing them. This one memorizes, and this one teaches. This is among the most important matters and among the best of acts of drawing near to Allah. So if he takes a wage that helps him with this great matter, there is nothing wrong with it.
