Fasting is broken for the sick person if fasting is difficult for him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: I am sixteen years old and I have been receiving treatment at King Faisal Specialist Hospital for about five years now. In Ramadan last year, the doctor ordered me to receive intravenous chemotherapy while I was fasting. The treatment was strong and affected my stomach and my entire body. On the same day I received the treatment, I suffered from severe hunger, and only about seven hours had passed since dawn. Around the time of 'Asr, I was in pain from it and nearly died, yet I did not break my fast until the adhan of Maghrib. In Ramadan this year, if Allah wills, the doctor will order me to receive that treatment. Should I break my fast on that day or not? If I do not break my fast, do I have to make up that day? Also, does drawing blood from a vein break the fast or not? And what about the treatment I mentioned? Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer: It is prescribed for the sick person to break his fast in Ramadan if fasting harms him, or is difficult for him, or if he needs treatment during the day in the form of pills, drinks, or the like of things that are eaten or drunk; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other daysوَمَن كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِّنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ
[al-Baqarah: 185], and because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Allah the Most High loves that His permissions be practiced, just as he dislikes that disobedience to Him be committed.إن الله يحب أن تؤتى رخصه كما يكره أن تؤتى معصيته
Bulugh al-Maram 2:341
, and in another narration:
As He loves that His... duties be observed.كما يحب أن تؤتى عزائمه
Bulugh al-Maram 2:342
. As for drawing blood from a vein for analysis or other purposes, the correct view is that it does not break the fast of the one who is fasting. However, if it is done frequently, it is better to postpone it. If he does it during the day, the safest course is to make up the fast, by analogy with cupping.
