Question: I suffered from some pains last Ramadan and was unable to fast, so I broke my fast and forced my wife, who was accompanying me during the treatment period, to break her fast as well. Now I wish to feed people because I am unable to fast.
Is what I did toward my wife permissible? Does feeding people suffice for me? Is it permissible for me to feed people because I am unable to fast? And is it permissible for me to feed people on behalf of my wife because she is currently breastfeeding?

Answer: Your breaking the fast due to illness,This is something for which a dispensation is granted, and Allah the Exalted says:
So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then an equal number of days [are to be made up]فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ
[Surat al-Baqarah: 184]. As for your ordering or forcing your wife to break her fast, I do not see any justification for it, because she is not ill, she is not traveling, and she is not among those with valid excuses. You erred in forcing her to break her fast when she is not among those with valid excuses. However, since the matter has already occurred, your wife must make up the fasts. If another Ramadan has passed before she made them up without an excuse, she must, in addition to making up the fasts, feed one poor person for every day.
If she broke her fast due to breastfeeding, because fasting would harm her child and reduce his milk supply, then breaking the fast in this case is valid, because she is among those with valid excuses. It is not enough for her to merely make up the fasts; rather, she must make up the fasts and feed one poor person for every day, because if she breaks her fast for the sake of her nursing child, she must make up the fasts and feed one poor person for every day.
