One Who Is Advanced in Age and Lacks Awareness

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: My father is advanced in age and does not have awareness, and he was unable to fast Ramadan. I paid fifteen riyals on his behalf daily. Is this permissible?

Answer: If his mind has departed and he has no awareness, and his sensation has departed, then he owes nothing, neither charity nor anything else. However, if his mind is with him and his sensation is with him, but he is unable to fast, then you feed on his behalf food, not coins. You feed on his behalf half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) every day, fifteen sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) which you give to some of the poor for the days of Ramadan, if his mind is with him. But if his sensation has become disordered, then he owes nothing, neither food nor anything else.
