The Most Complete Method of Trimming the Hair on the Head

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: The brother / A. M. H. from Amaj in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia says in his question: I performed Hajj last year as a mutamatti', combining 'Umrah with Hajj. After I finished the 'Umrah, I trimmed the hair on my head with scissors, taking a few strands from most of its parts, on the grounds that I would shave it after performing Hajj. Is there any sin in what I did? Please advise us, and may you be rewarded.

Answer: The trimming you did with the scissors is sufficient, and you owe nothing. The safest and most complete method is to trim the hair on the head all over. Shaving is better than trimming; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) invoked mercy and forgiveness three times for those who shaved, and once for those who trimmed. However, if the pilgrim arrives close to the time of Hajj, it is better for him to trim when he exits the state of ihram from the 'Umrah and save the shaving for Hajj; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered those who came with him for Hajj in the Farewell Pilgrimage, who did not have sacrificial animals, to trim and did not order them to shave.
The wisdom in this, and Allah knows best, is that the rest of the head remains for shaving when exiting the state of ihram from Hajj. And success is from Allah.
