Ruling on borrowing with interest to pay off debts

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: I am an employee with a salary of approximately 3,048 riyals, and I have been married for about a year. I have debts totaling 53,000 riyals, and my creditors often embarrass me, and I find nothing with which to pay them. Is it permissible for me to borrow from one of the banks that lend by taking interest, knowing that the loan will not cover half of my debts? Please inform me, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer: It is not permissible for a Muslim to borrow from a bank or anyone else a loan with interest; because that is among the greatest forms of riba (usury or interest). He must take the permissible means in seeking sustenance and paying off debts. In what Allah has permitted of transactions and types of earnings, there is what suffices the Muslim from what Allah has forbidden him.
It is obligatory for the creditors to grant you a respite until you are able to pay, if they know of your inability to pay; because Allah the Exalted said:
And if someone is in hardship, then [let there be] postponement until [a time of] ease. But if you give [from your right as] charity, then it is better for you, if you only knew.
[al-Baqarah: 280]. It is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Yahya related to me from Malik from Khubayb ibn Abd ar-Rahman al- Ansari from Hafs ibn Asim that either Abu Said al-Khudri or Abu Hurayra said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'There are seven whom Allah will shade in His shade on the day on which there is no shade except His shade: a just imam, a youth who grows up worshipping Allah, a man whose heart is attached to the mosque when he leaves it until he returns to it, two men who love each other in Allah and meet for that and part for that, a man who remembers Allah when he is alone and his eyes overflow with tears, a man who refuses the approaches of a noble, beautiful woman, saying "I fear Allah," and a man who gives sadaqa and conceals it so that his left hand does not know what his right hand gives.' "من أنظر معسرًا أظله الله في ظله يوم لا ظل إلا ظله
Muwatta Malik 51:14
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever is easy with (a debtor) who is in difficulty, Allah will be easy with him in this world and in the Hereafter.من يسر على معسر يسر الله عليه في الدنيا والآخرة
Sunan Ibn Majah 2417Sahih (Darussalam)
