The Ruling on the Phrase "My Soul, Three Times"
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: From 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Baz to the honorable brother, the virtuous Shaykh 'A. S. S., may Allah guide him to all good, amen.
Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings after it:
O Beloved, your noble letter dated 6/4/1390 AH, which is a response to my letter number (521) dated 2/4/1390 AH, has reached you, may Allah guide you. I understood what your virtue stated regarding the nature of the divorce that occurred from the husband 'A. to his wife, namely that he said to her: "My soul, three times," and that he did not divorce her before or after that, and that he took her back during the waiting period of the aforementioned divorce, and that this was after you heard the statements of the divorcer and the father of the divorced woman.
Answer: Based on this, I issued a fatwa to the aforementioned husband that one divorce has occurred with his aforementioned divorce, and his taking her back is valid, if the evidence is established with you, or by the woman's admission. It is well known that what indicates the aforementioned fatwa has been authentically reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as is not hidden. I hope you will inform everyone of this, and order the husband to repent from his divorce, because it is contrary to the Sunnah, as your virtue knows that. May Allah reward you and thank you for your efforts, and peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
