The ruling on one who pronounces triple divorce in a single utterance, and has not consummated the marriage

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: From 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Baz to the honorable brother, the esteemed President of the High Court in Ta'if, may Allah guide him to all good, amen.
Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings. After that:
O Beloved, I have reviewed what your eminence recorded in your ruling dated 11/11/1389 AH, appended to my letter number (1311) dated 5/7/1389 AH, regarding the nature of the divorce pronounced by the husband, A.A., on his wife. It is that he divorced her with three divorces in a single utterance, in exchange for one thousand riyals, before consummating the marriage, and he did not pronounce any other divorce. This was after you heard the statements of the aforementioned husband and the guardian of the divorced woman, who is her father.

Answer: Based on this, I issued a fatwa to the aforementioned husband that one divorce has taken effect on the aforementioned wife through the divorce mentioned, and he may return to her through a new marriage with its conditions considered valid by the Shari'ah. This is because she has no waiting period, as she has not been consummated, and because the divorce was for a consideration. It is well known that there is a report from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) indicating the aforementioned fatwa.
I hope you will inform everyone of this, and order the husband to repent from his divorce, as it is a reprehensible divorce, as your eminence is aware of this. May Allah reward you and thank you for your efforts.
And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
