No guardianship for brothers over a sister in the presence of the father

Question: His Eminence the Shaykh / Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz, the Grand Mufti of the Kingdom, may Allah preserve him. Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings, and after that:
Please inform your Eminence: I have a daughter, and her maternal uncle’s son proposed to marry her. He is a suitable match, but her brothers refused this. I tried to convince them, but I was unable to. I ask your Eminence to clarify the ruling on their action and to advise them. May Allah reward you with good and greatly increase your reward. I inform you that the groom’s mother has a favor to her sister, the girl’s mother. Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings.

Answer: And upon you be peace, and Allah’s mercy and blessings, and after that:
The matter is not theirs; rather, the matter is yours, because you are her father and you are her guardian. If the suitor is suitable in his religion and you have accepted him, it is obligatory for you to marry her off, even if her brothers are not pleased. If they have a doubt, attend with them at the court so that the court can look into the matter. It is not permissible for you to delay the girl’s marriage for their sake, because she is a trust in your care. May Allah guide everyone to what pleases Him. Peace.
