The Ruling on a Sister Giving Her Share to Her Brother
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: My father has been deceased for some time, and we have a house in his name. We decided to sell it and divide the inheritance. One of my sisters wants to relinquish her right to the inheritance to me to help me with marriage. Please note that she is married and is in a comfortable financial situation, as is her husband. Is this permissible? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: There is no blame on you in accepting your sister’s gift of her share of the house to you, as assistance for your marriage, provided she is of sound mind. This is because the evidence from the Book and the Sunnah indicates the permissibility of a woman voluntarily giving some of her wealth to her relatives and others.
Likewise, it is prescribed for her to give charity if she is of sound mind. And success is from Allah.
