Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it required to refrain from committing major sins (for the expiation of minor sins)?

Answer:
Yes,
If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will remove from you your lesser sins
[Surat al-Nisa: 31] It is necessary. And in the authentic hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
The five [daily] prayers, Friday to Friday and Ramadan to Ramadan make atonement for what has happened since the previous one when major sins have been avoided.
Mishkat al-Masabih 564
May Allah guide them all.
