Hadiths of Absolute Forgiveness Are Conditioned on Avoiding Major Sins

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says in his final question: In the hadith narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever says after every prayer: Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar, his sins will be forgivenمن قال في دبر كل صلاة: سبحان الله، والحمد لله، والله أكبر، غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه
Given that this person delays some of the prayers from their times, and at times forgets the tasbih, will his sins be forgiven despite all this?

Answer:
The hadiths that contain absolute forgiveness are conditioned on avoiding major sins. If one says: Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar thirty-three times each, and concludes with La ilaha illa Allah, he is promised forgiveness, but this is upon avoiding major sins. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The five [daily] prayers, Friday to Friday and Ramadan to Ramadan make atonement for what has happened since the previous one when major sins have been avoided.الصلوات الخمس، والجمعة إلى الجمعة، ورمضان إلى رمضان، كفارات لما بينهن إذا اجتنب الكبائر
Mishkat al-Masabih 564
And the explicit text of the Qur'an says—(Exalted and Majestic is He):
If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will remove from you your lesser sinsإِنْ تَجْتَنِبُوا كَبَائِرَ مَا تُنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ نُكَفِّرْ عَنْكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ
[Al-Nisa: 31] It addresses the Muslims, and it addresses others as well. So if the servant avoids shirk (associating partners with Allah) and major sins, Allah will forgive his minor sins. So it is obligatory to be cautious. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you, O Shaykh.
