The Ruling on the Hadith: "Whoever Settles in the Desert Becomes Rude"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
In a statement by the Shaykh al-Islam in *Al-Iqtida* regarding the hadith:
He who lives in the desert will become rudeمَنْ سَكَنَ البادية جَفا
Sunan Abi Dawud 2859Sahih (Al-Albani)
The Shaykh al-Islam mentioned it in *Al-Iqtida* and said: He said, may Allah have mercy on him: "For this reason, Abu Dawud and others narrated from the hadith of al-Thawri: Abu Musa told me from Wahb ibn Munabbih, from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — Sufyan said once: 'And I do not know it except from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)' — he said:
He who lives in the desert will become rude; he who pursues the game will be negligent, and he who visits a king will be perverted.من سكن البادية جفا، ومن اتبع الصيد غفل، ومن أتى السلطان افتتن
Sunan Abi Dawud 2859Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
Abu Dawud also narrated it from the hadith of al-Hasan ibn al-Hakam al-Nakha'i, from 'Adi ibn Thabit, from a shaykh of the Ansar, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) , from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — with the same meaning — and he said: "And whoever clings to the ruler falls into fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), and he added: 'And the closer a servant gets to the ruler, the farther he becomes from Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He)' . For this reason, they used to say to one who was harsh with them: 'You are a rude Bedouin, you are a coarse, rough person,' referring to the coarseness of his mind and character.

Answer:
Both chains are weak. The second one contains an unknown shaykh, and the first one contains Abu Musa, who is unknown.
Q: And what about Ahmad's last chain?
The Shaykh: Both are weak.
Q: This is the chain, O Shaykh: Muhammad told us, he said: Isma'il ibn Zakariyya told us, from al-Hasan ibn al-Hakam al-Nakha'i, from 'Adi ibn Thabit, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurayrah.
The Shaykh: Look into al-Hasan ibn al-Hakam; what was said about him?
The student: Al-Hasan ibn al-Hakam is al-Nakha'i, Abu al-Hakam al-Kufi, a truthful narrator who makes mistakes, from the sixth generation.
The Shaykh: Is this from *Al-Taqrib*?
The student: Yes, and 'Adi ibn Thabit is a trustworthy narrator, accused of Shi'ism, from the fourth generation.
The Shaykh: On the surface, the rest of the chain supports him, and reality supports it; because settling in the desert is undoubtedly one of the causes of rudeness, and following hunting, and being occupied with hunting is heedlessness, and clinging to rulers is undoubtedly one of the causes of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). Some of it supports the other.
