How did Suhayl say, "If we knew that you were the Messenger of Allah, we would not have fought you," while Allah says: "Indeed, they do not deny you"?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : How did Suhayl say, "If we knew that you were a Messenger, we would not have fought you," while Allah says:
And indeed, they do not call you untruthful فإنهم لا يكذبونك
[Al-An'am 6:33]
...?

The Shaykh : Just as Allah the Exalted said, they deny it. He says, "If we knew [that you were] a denier," but deep down in his heart, he knows that he is a Messenger, like what Allah the Exalted said regarding the family of Pharaoh:
And they rejected them, while their [inner] selves were convinced thereof وجحدوا بها واستيقنتها أنفُسُهُم
[An-Naml 27:14]
.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : No, even the Messenger; they know that he is the Messenger of Allah, but they deny it, meaning he has with him signs upon which people would believe.
