The reciter: And Abdullah ibn 'Umar ibn Muhammad ibn Aban al-Ju'fi narrated to us, and 'Abd al-Rahim—meaning ibn Sulayman—narrated to us from Zakariya from Abu Ishaq from 'Amr ibn Maymun al-Awdi from Ibn Mas'ud, who said:
While the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was praying at the House, and Abu Jahl and his companions were sitting, and a camel had been slaughtered the day before, Abu Jahl said, "Which of you will go to the intestines of the camel of so-and-so, take them, and place them on the shoulders of Muhammad when he prostrates?" So the most wretched of the men stood up and took them. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated, he placed them between his shoulders. He said, "So they laughed, and some of them leaned on others, and I was standing watching. If I had had any strength, I would have thrown it off the back of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was prostrating and did not raise his head until a man went and informed Fatimah. She came, and she was a young girl, and she threw it off him, then she turned to them and cursed them. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished his prayer, he raised his voice and then invoked a curse upon them. And when he invoked a curse, he did so three times, and when he asked, he asked three times. Then he said, "O Allah, be against Quraysh," three times. When they heard his voice, the laughter left them, and they feared his invocation. Then he said, "O Allah, be against Abu Jahl ibn Hisham, 'Utbah ibn Rabi'ah, Shaybah ibn Rabi'ah, al-Walid ibn 'Uqbah, Umayyah ibn Khalaf, and 'Uqbah ibn Abi Mu'ayt," and he mentioned the seventh, but I did not memorize it. By Him who sent Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with the truth, I have seen those whom he named fallen on the Day of Badr, then they were dragged to the well—the well of Badr.
