The reciter: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah, 'Amr al-Naqqad, and Ibn Abi 'Umar narrated to us, and the wording is that of Abu Bakr. They said: Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah narrated to us from al-Zuhri from 'Urwah from Abu Humayd al-Sa'idi, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed a man from the Aslam tribe, known as Ibn al-Lutbiyyah—'Amr said: and Ibn Abi 'Umar—over the alms. When he returned, he said: "This is for you, and this is for me; it was a gift given to me." He said: So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on the pulpit, praised Allah and extolled Him, and said: "What is the matter with an official I send who says, 'This is for you, and this was a gift given to me'? Should he not have sat in his father's house or his mother's house until he saw whether he would be given a gift or not? By Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, no one of you will take anything from it but he will come on the Day of Resurrection carrying it on his neck: a camel with a bray, or a cow with a lowing, or a sheep with a bleating." Then he raised his hands until we saw the whiteness of his armpits, and then he said: "O Allah, have I conveyed?"
twice.

The Shaykh : This indicates that embezzlement from public funds is punished with this punishment, and the punishment is a fitting reality, because just as he took the public funds of the Muslims without right, it is fitting that he be exposed to the people on the Day of Resurrection.
And from this category are those who take payment for work they did not perform, such as those who take for field work they did not do, and the like of that.
So those are undoubtedly embezzlers, and what they embezzled they will bring on the Day of Resurrection. We ask Allah for safety.
