The reciter: Dawud ibn Rushayd narrated to us, al-Walid—meaning ibn Muslim—narrated to us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Jabir informed me, a freed slave of Banu Fazarah, who is Ruzayq ibn Hayyan, that he heard Muslim ibn Qarazah—the cousin of Awf ibn Malik al-Ashja'i—say: I heard Awf ibn Malik al-Ashja'i say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Sahih Muslim 1855b, Ibn Jabir said: So I said—meaning to Ruzayq—when he narrated this hadith to me: By Allah, O Abu al-Miqdam, did he narrate this to you, or did you hear this from Muslim ibn Qarazah saying: I heard Awf saying: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: .
The Shaykh : In this is evidence that when a person wants to confirm something, he does the same or something similar, which indicates his certainty and emphasis on it.
And in this is also a refutation of those who say: The imam is not to be obeyed if he is disobeying Allah. This is a great error. The imam is not to be obeyed in disobedience to Allah, but he is to be obeyed in other matters even if he is disobeying Allah. His sin is upon himself, but we must obey and listen. Therefore, when it is said to some people: Do not oppose the command of the one in authority, they say: He has opposed it. This is an error. You have what you were charged with, and they have what they were charged with, and their reckoning is with Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
The best of your rulers are those whom you love and who love you, upon whom you invoke God's blessings and who invoke His blessing upon you. And the worst of your rulers are those whom you hate and who hate you, who curse you and whom you curse. (Those present) said: Shouldn't we overthrow them at this? He said: No, as long as they establish prayer among you. No, as long as they establish prayer among you. Mind you! One who has a governor appointed over him and he finds that the governor indulges in an act of disobedience to God, he should condemn the governor's act, in disobedience to God, but should not withdraw himself from his obedience.
He knelt on his knees, faced the qiblah, and said: Yes, by Allah, He to whom there is no god but Him, I heard it from Muslim ibn Qarazah saying: I heard Awf ibn Malik saying: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
The Shaykh : In this is evidence that when a person wants to confirm something, he does the same or something similar, which indicates his certainty and emphasis on it.
