The reciter: And Yahya ibn Yahya narrated to us, saying: Yazid ibn Zura' informed us, from Khalid, from al-Hakam ibn 'Abd Allah ibn al-A'raj, from Ma'qil ibn Yasar, who said:
I have seen myself on the Day of the Tree, with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taking the pledge of allegiance from the people, while I was holding up a branch of its branches over his head, and we were fourteen hundred. He said: We did not pledge him to die, but we pledged him that we would not flee.
