The Book of Jihad, Expeditions, and Authority-10a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Wahb ibn Buqayyah al-Wasiti narrated to me, and Khalid ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, from al-Jurayri, from Abu Nadr, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When oath of allegiance has been taken for two caliphs, kill the one for whom the oath was taken later. إِذَا بُويِعَ لِخَلِيفَتَيْنِ، فَاقْتُلُوا الْآخَرَ مِنْهُمَا
Sahih Muslim 1853
.

The Shaykh : Because the second one is considered a Khariji. For when allegiance was pledged to the first one, the caliphate became established for him, and he became the authority over those who pledged allegiance to him. So if the second one comes to be pledged allegiance to, he is a Khariji whose neck is to be struck.
