What is the ruling on one who washes his head instead of wiping it in the ablution?

The Shaykh : Regarding washing the head instead of wiping it, there are three opinions among the scholars. Some said it is sufficient, some said it is not sufficient, and some said it is sufficient if he passes his hand over his head, otherwise it is not. This is the school of thought, but with the ruling of being disliked. That is to say, even according to the opinion that it is sufficient, it is disliked. Those who said it is sufficient said so because Allah only waived the washing of the head as a concession, because the head contains hair, and if people were burdened with washing it, it would be a hardship, especially in winter and cold days. So Allah waived the washing as a concession for the servants. If he washes it instead of wiping it, he has chosen for himself what is more severe, so it is sufficient. Those who said it is not sufficient said so because it is contrary to the command of Allah the Exalted, and Allah the Exalted said: And if it is contrary to the command of Allah, it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Sahih Muslim 1718b Those who said that washing is sufficient with passing the hand said so because if he passes his hand, the wiping has occurred with the addition of water through the washing. But in any case, there is no doubt that wiping is better than washing. Wiping is better than washing; there is no doubt in this. As for the sufficiency of washing absolutely in place of wiping, there is consideration in this. But with passing the hand, the matter in this is close.
