Explanation of the author's statement: "… and it is recommended to hasten it …"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The author said "and it is recommended to hasten it", meaning that it is recommended to hasten the 'Asr prayer, i.e., to perform it at the beginning of its time. This is due to the generality of the evidence indicating that the beginning of the time is superior, as in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And race toward the good deeds. فاستبقوا الخيرات
And because it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith of Abu Burzah al-Aslami:
God’s Messenger used to pray the afternoon prayer when the sun was high and bright أنه كان صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي العصر والشمس نقيّة
Mishkat al-Masabih 592
high in the sky, until they go to their homes in the farthest part of the city while the sun is still bright. This is evidence of his hastening to perform it. Therefore, the evidence that hastening it is superior is the generality of the evidence indicating the hastening to do good and that prayer at its proper time is among the best of deeds.
And another specific evidence is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray 'Asr, and the one who would go from the Companions to the farthest part of the city to his home would find the sun still bright, meaning that it had not changed.
Now, let us review that the correct view is that the preferred time for it extends until the sun turns yellow, the yellowing of the sun. So 'Asr has two times: a time of choice and a time of necessity. The time of choice extends until the shadow of every object becomes twice its length, according to the well-known view of the school of thought, or until the sun turns yellow, according to the stronger opinion. The time of necessity extends until sunset. But we gave an example previously for necessity, what was it? Like fear.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : And guests whom one cannot leave, or a wound that needs to be treated, and the like of that.
