The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
This is the hadith that the author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned regarding the story of Ma‘n ibn Yazid and his father (may Allah be pleased with them both): that his father Yazid took out some dirhams and placed them with a man in the mosque to give in charity to the poor. Then his son Ma‘n came and took them. He took them: perhaps that man who was entrusted with them did not know that he was Yazid’s son, and it is possible that he gave them to him because he was among those entitled to receive them. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan ad-Darimi 3:21 In this hadith, there is evidence, as the author cited it for this purpose, that actions are by intentions, and that a person is recorded the reward of what he intended, even if the matter turned out contrary to what he intended.
