He said (may Allah have mercy on him): "The Chapter on Truthfulness: Allah the Exalted said:[At-Tawbah 9:119], and He said: , and He said: [Muhammad 47:21]. And from 'Abdullah ibn Ka'b ibn Malik, who was the guide of Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) from among his sons when he became blind, he said: I heard Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrating his story when he lagged behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the expedition of Tabuk.
Ka'b said:
ولقد شهدتُ مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ليلة العقبة حين تواثقنا على الإسلام ، وما أحبُّ أن لي بها مشهد بدر ، وإن كانت بدر أذكر في الناس منها ، وكان من خبري حين تخلَّفت عن ".
He said (may Allah have mercy on him): "The Chapter on Truthfulness: Allah the Exalted said:
O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are true.
يا أيها الذين آمنوا اتقوا الله وكونوا مع الصادقينAnd the men who are truthful and the women who are truthful
والصادقين والصادقاتif they had been true to Allah, it would have been better for them.
فلو صدقوا الله لكان خيراً لهمKa'b said:
I did not lag behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in any expedition he led, except in the expedition of Tabuk, except that I had lagged behind in the expedition of Badr, and no one who lagged behind him was rebuked. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Muslims set out intending to intercept the caravan of Quraysh, until Allah the Exalted gathered them with their enemy without any prior appointment. And I certainly witnessed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) the night of al-'Aqabah when we pledged allegiance to Islam, and I would not wish to have a share in Badr for it, even though Badr is more famous among the people than it.
