The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, regarding what he quoted from the hadith of Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) and his two companions who were left behind when they lagged behind in the expedition to Tabuk: that he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him the truth, informing him that he had no excuse, neither in his body nor in his wealth, and that in fact he had never gathered two mounts for an expedition before this one. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan an-Nasa'i 731Sahih (Darussalam) : And it is sufficient for him as a point of pride that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) described him as truthful, Sahih Muslim 2769a, b : So the man went, submitting to the command of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), believing in Allah, and that what Allah willed happened and what He did not will did not happen.
, meaning regarding what he had lagged behind in with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Sahih Muslim 2780a He (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to do so, but Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) saved him and recorded for him this great virtue that is recited in the Book of Allah until the Day of Resurrection. So he asked his people, saying: : Look, sometimes Allah provides for a person something that makes him leave off evil by following the example of others and emulating them. So when these two men were mentioned to him (may Allah be pleased with him), and they were among the best of Allah's servants who witnessed Badr, and they were among those who witnessed Badr, he said: I have an example in them, and he proceeded, meaning he did not return to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), : But after that, they began to walk as if they had no minds, having been stunned. The earth became strange to them; it was not the earth they knew, because if he walked and greeted someone, they did not return his greeting, and if someone met him, they did not initiate the greeting. Even the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who was the best of people in character, did not give them the ordinary greeting. Ka'b said: , and this was the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). What do you think of a group or a man who is boycotted in this Islamic society, which is the best of the generations? The earth would become narrow for them, and indeed their souls became narrow for them, and they thought there was no refuge from Allah except in Him. They remained in this state for fifty days, meaning a full month and twenty days. The people boycotted them; they did not greet them, and they did not return the greeting if they greeted them. They were like leper camels among the people, whom no one approached. So matters became narrow for them, and their conditions became difficult, and they fled to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). But despite that, Ka'b ibn Malik did not leave the prayer with the congregation. He would attend and greet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but in the end, he would sometimes lag behind the prayers because of the distress and embarrassment he felt in his heart, because he was ashamed to come to a group of people to pray with who never spoke to him, not with a kind word, nor with a word of rebuke or blame. They left him completely. So the earth became narrow for them, and they remained in this state for a full fifty nights. And when forty nights had passed for them: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent to them to separate from their wives. To this extent, he separated them from their wives. What do you think of a man like Ka'b ibn Malik, a young man, being separated from his wife? It is a great matter. But despite that, when the messenger from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to him and said to him: Sahih Muslim 2769a, b : If he had said to him: Divorce her, he would have divorced her easily, in obedience to Allah and His Messenger. He asked, saying: Sahih al-Bukhari 4418 : And he remained with the apparent wording, until the Companion who was sent did not alter the wording, neither in meaning nor in words. He said: This is what he said, and I do not know. And this is from the etiquette of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). He did not say: By Allah, I think he wants you to divorce her, or I do not think he wants you to divorce her. He did not say anything. He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this. So Ka'b said to his wife: , and the rest of the speech on this hadith will come, if Allah wills.
So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
