The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, regarding what he quoted from the hadith of Ka‘b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) and his two companions who lagged behind in the expedition to Tabuk, and were left behind until Allah decided their matter: It has been mentioned to us previously that Allah revealed a Qur’an to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at night, clarifying therein His (Mighty and Majestic) acceptance of the repentance of the three who were left behind, namely Ka‘b ibn Malik, Hilal ibn Umayyah, and Murarah ibn al-Rabi‘. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the Fajr prayer and sat with his companions, he informed them of Allah’s (Mighty and Majestic) acceptance of the repentance of the three, and that Allah had turned to them in mercy. It has been mentioned to us previously that Ka‘b heard a voice from Sal‘ saying to him:: whereupon he stood up, met him, shook his hand, and congratulated him, until he stood before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and his face was shining with joy, for it was a joy to him (peace and blessings be upon him) that Allah had accepted the repentance of these three, who had been truthful to Allah and His Messenger, and had spoken the truth out of faith, and what happened to them was a great matter: the people boycotted them for fifty days, and even their wives, after forty days, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered them to be isolated from them. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Sahih al-Bukhari 4418: and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was truthful. The best day that passed for Ka‘b since his mother bore him was that day when Allah revealed His acceptance of his repentance and that of his two companions, in a Qur’an that is recited, spoken by the Lord of the Worlds (Mighty and Majestic) and sent down to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), preserved through Gabriel, and preserved until the Day of Resurrection. There is no one, other than the Prophets or those whom Allah mentioned in the Qur’an, whose story was preserved as the story of Ka‘b ibn Malik and his two companions was preserved. This story remains recited in the Book of Allah in the mihrabs and on the minbars and in every place, and whoever reads this story gets ten good deeds for every letter. So this day is undoubtedly the best day that passed for Ka‘b since his mother bore him. I said to him: Sahih al-Bukhari 4418, because it is known that if it is from Allah, it is more noble, better, and greater. He said: , so Ka‘b said: . “Divest myself” means to relinquish it and make it charity for Allah and His Messenger, to be at their disposal and management. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan an-Nasa'i 3823Sahih (Darussalam): In this portion of the hadith, there is evidence that it is from the Sunnah that when something pleasing comes to a person, he should be pleased with it and bring good news of it, whether it is good in religion or good in this world. For this reason, the angels brought good news to Ibrahim of a boy, a boy who would be knowledgeable and a boy who would be gentle. The gentle boy is Isma‘il, and the knowledgeable boy is Ishaq. The angels brought good news to Ibrahim of these two boys.
