The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
In the context of the verses mentioned by the author (may Allah have mercy on him) in the chapter on certainty and reliance upon Allah, having previously spoken about the first verse, the author (may Allah have mercy on him) then mentioned the second verse, which is the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Ali 'Imran 3:173] This verse was revealed concerning the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) when they experienced what happened to them in the Battle of Uhud, including the sores, wounds, and martyrs they suffered. It was said to them that Abu Sufyan had resolved to return against them and had gathered people for them. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged them to meet and confront him. They responded to Allah and the Messenger after they had been afflicted with sores and struck by this great calamity. Seventy men were killed among them, martyred in the cause of Allah. And what happened to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and other of his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) occurred. And despite this, they responded to Allah and the Messenger. Allah the Exalted said: [Ali 'Imran 3:172-173] This means that Abu Sufyan and those with him, from among the remaining elders of Quraysh, gathered against the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), intending to exterminate him. But Allah refuses to do anything other than perfect His light. They were told, O Companions, fear these people. But they increased in faith, for the believer, as crises intensify, increases in faith in Allah, because he believes that victory is with patience, that relief is with distress, and that with hardship there is ease. Therefore, it increased their faith. This statement: [Ali 'Imran 3:173] "Sufficient for us" means sufficient for us in our urgent matters and our severe difficulties. "And He is the best Disposer of affairs" means He is the best Sufficient One (Exalted and Majestic is He), for He is the best Master and the best Helper. But He is only a Helper to one who takes refuge in Him and seeks His help. For He, the Mighty and Majestic, is the most generous of the generous and the most bountiful of the bountiful. When a person turns to Him in his affairs, He helps him, supports him, and takes charge of him. But the affliction comes from the sons of Adam; the affliction is from us, where turning away is common in a person, and he relies on material matters rather than spiritual matters.
Allah the Exalted said:[Ali 'Imran 3:174] They went, but they did not find any stratagem. Abu Sufyan and those with him turned on their heels and did not return against the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So a battle was recorded for the Companions without fighting. This return was recorded as a battle without fighting. Allah the Exalted said: [Ali 'Imran 3:174] Then He said: [Ali 'Imran 3:175] He threatens His awliya (close friends of Allah), meaning He threatens you, O His awliya, meaning He casts fear into your hearts regarding His awliya. [Ali 'Imran 3:175] So Satan comes to the believer and says, "Beware of speaking about so-and-so. You see him as a person who might have you imprisoned, who might speak about you, who might say this and that about you." So he frightens you. "Beware, it is not right that you report on so-and-so the criminal, for he is a criminal who harms you and does this and that." But the believer cannot fear the awliya of Satan, because Allah said: [An-Nisa 4:76] His stratagem and the stratagem of his awliya is weak in relation to the truth. So a person should not fear the blame of a blamer in the cause of Allah, and should not fear anyone but Allah. But it is obligatory that his conduct be guided by the guidance of Allah the Mighty and Majestic. If his conduct is guided by the guidance of Allah, he should not fear anyone. And success is from Allah.
The reader: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted, in the context of the verses in the chapter on certainty and reliance upon Allah, "And Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Furqan 25:58] And Allah the Exalted said: [Ali 'Imran 3:122] And Allah the Exalted said: [Ali 'Imran 3:159] And Allah the Exalted said: [At-Talaq 65:3] And Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Anfal 8:2] And the verses regarding the virtue of reliance upon Allah are numerous and well known."
In the context of the verses mentioned by the author (may Allah have mercy on him) in the chapter on certainty and reliance upon Allah, having previously spoken about the first verse, the author (may Allah have mercy on him) then mentioned the second verse, which is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Those to whom hypocrites said, "Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them." But it [merely] increased them in faith, and they said, "Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs."
(172) Those [believers] who responded to Allah and the Messenger after injury had struck them. For those who did good among them and feared Allah is a great reward - (173) Those to whom hypocrites said, "Indeed, the people have gathered against you
للذين استجابوا لله والرسول من بعد ما أصابهم القرح للذين أحسنوا منهم واتقوا أجر عظيم الذين قال لهم الناس إن الناس قد جمعوا لكمand they said, "Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs."
And He is the best Disposer of affairs.
Allah the Exalted said:
So they returned with favor from Allah and bounty, no harm having touched them
So they returned with favor from Allah and bounty, no harm having touched them. And they pursued the pleasure of Allah, and Allah is the possessor of great bounty.
That is only Satan who frightens [you] of his supporters. So fear them not, but fear Me, if you are [indeed] believers.
So fear them not, but fear Me, if you are [indeed] believers.
So fight against the allies of Satan. Indeed, the plot of Satan has ever been weak.
