I saw 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) kissing the stone, meaning the Black Stone, and saying: I know that you are a stone that neither benefits nor harms, and were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kissing you, I would not have kissed you. رأيت عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه يقبل الحجر يعني الأسود ويقول: أعلم أنك حجر ما تنفع ولا تضر، ولولا أني رأيت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقبلك ما قبلتك
