The Shaykh : He (may Allah have mercy on him) said in the chapter on sincere advice that there are three hadiths: The first hadith is from Tamim al-Dari (may Allah be pleased with him), Tamim ibn Aws, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He repeated it three times, (peace and blessings be upon him), so that the one addressed and the listener would pay attention and receive what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying with attentiveness. Sunan an-Nasa'i 4197Sahih (Darussalam) There are five things that are the place of sincere advice. Sincere advice to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is by being sincere to Him, by being sincere to Allah the Exalted, and by worshipping Him with love and magnification. For Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is worshipped by the servant with love, so he carries out His commands seeking to reach His love, (Mighty and Majestic), and with magnification, so he refrains from His prohibitions out of fear of Him (Glorified and Exalted is He). And from sincere advice to Allah is that a person is constantly remembering his Lord with his heart, his tongue, and his limbs. As for the heart, there are no limits to its remembrance; a person can remember Allah with his heart in every state, in everything he sees, and in everything he hears, because in every thing there is a sign of Allah the Exalted indicating His oneness, His greatness, and His power. He reflects on the creation of the heavens and the earth, he reflects on the night and the day, he reflects on the signs of Allah such as the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the animals, and others. This causes remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in his heart. From sincere advice to Allah is that one’s jealousy is for Allah; one is jealous for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) when His prohibitions are violated, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was. Indeed, (peace and blessings be upon him) never took revenge for himself, no matter what people said about him; he did not take revenge for himself. But when the prohibitions of Allah were violated, he became the most severe of people in taking revenge from those who violate the sanctities of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). So a person is jealous for his Lord; he does not hear anyone curse Allah, or insult Allah, or mock Allah without being jealous of that, even to the point that if he had the right to kill him, he would kill him, because this is from sincere advice to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). From sincere advice to Allah is that one defends his religion, the religion of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) which He legislated for His servants, so he nullifies the plots of the plotters and refutes the atheists who present the religion as if it were shackles that restrain people from their freedoms. The truth is that the religion is shackles, but they are shackles of freedom, because a person is restrained for whom? For Allah (Mighty and Majestic); he is restrained for Allah the Exalted, by Allah, and in the religion of Allah. Whoever is not restrained by this is restrained by Satan and in the steps of Satan, because the self is always restless, always restless; there is no one whose self is at rest. It must have a concern for something, either in good or in evil. And how good is the statement of Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) in *al-Nuniyyah* where he said:
“Flee from the slavery for which they were created, *** and be afflicted with the slavery of the self and Satan”
Flee from the slavery for which they were created. What is the slavery for which we were created? The worship of Allah.[Adh-Dhariyat 51:56] But flee from this slavery, which is the perfection of freedom and the perfection of happiness, to the slavery of the self and Satan. The self—we seek refuge in Allah from its evil—the self enslaves a person and dictates to him his desires, so he becomes submissive to his desires. And when the desire prevails, the intellect departs; when the desire prevails, the intellect departs. And as the poet said:
“Intoxicated with the intoxication of desire and the intoxication of wine, *** So when will the one in whom both are present become sober?”
He describes a person who drinks intoxicants, may Allah protect us from that, and says: There are two intoxications in him; he says there are two intoxications in him: the intoxication of desire and the intoxication of wine. So when will the one in whom both are present become sober? There is no hope for his sobriety. So the result is that a person worships Allah (Mighty and Majestic), not the self and not Satan, so that he is freed from the shackles that harm him and do not benefit him. From sincere advice to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is that one spreads the religion of Allah among the servants of Allah, because this is the station of the messengers. All the messengers are callers to Allah, calling people to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), as Allah the Exalted said about them:[An-Nahl 16:36] meaning: from the nation [An-Nahl 16:36] We ask Allah the Exalted to guide us and you to His straight path. And the rest of the speech on the hadith will come, if Allah wills.
