Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, in what he quoted from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said:
We used to say, while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was alive: What is the Farewell Pilgrimage? And we did not know what the Farewell Pilgrimage was? كنا نقول والنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم حي: ما حجة الوداع ولا ندري ما حجة الوداع؟
And the Farewell Pilgrimage is the pilgrimage that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed in the tenth year of the Hijrah, prayers and peace be upon him, and he bid farewell to the people in it and said:
Perhaps I will not meet you after this year of mine. لعلي لا ألقاكم بعد عامي هذا
