The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned this chapter after the chapter on asceticism in this world. In it, he clarifies that a person should not indulge excessively in the pleasures of this world, but should limit himself to what is needed, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did. He mentioned verses explaining the outcome of those who follow their desires and neglect the prayers. He said, and the word of Allah the Exalted is:[Maryam 19:59-60] : "After them came a generation" means: after the prophets mentioned before this verse, a generation came after them who did not follow their path. : Neglecting the prayer means being lax in it: in its conditions, such as ritual purity, covering the private parts, and facing the qiblah; in its pillars, such as settling in ruku' and sujud, and standing and sitting; and in its obligations, such as seeking forgiveness between the two prostrations, glorifying Allah in ruku' and sujud, and the first tashahhud, and the like. More severe than this are those who neglect it until its time has passed, so they do not pray except after the time has gone. If these people have an excuse, such as sleep or forgetfulness, their prayer is accepted, even if it is after the time. If they have no excuse, their prayer is rejected and not accepted from them, even if they pray a thousand times. : means they have no concern except for desires, what their bellies and private parts desire. So they pamper their bodies, follow what brings pleasure to the bodies, and neglect the prayer, may Allah protect us. Allah the Exalted said: [Maryam 19:59-60] : and this is a warning to them that they, may Allah protect us, will meet error. [Maryam 19:60].
Then he mentioned the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) explaining the life of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and that he did not eat his fill of barley bread for two consecutive nights due to the poverty of his hand (peace and blessings be upon him). And that two months would pass in three lunar months without a fire being lit in his house, and it was only the two blacks: dates and water. Although the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), if he had willed, the mountains would have moved with him as gold. But he wanted to limit himself to this world with only what corresponds to the world in terms of need. And success is from Allah.
