The Shaykh : Then he mentioned the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This means: When you hear the iqamah from outside the mosque, and this indicates that the iqamah is heard from outside the mosque, which is the apparent meaning. It has come in a hadith that Bilal said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family): “Do not precede me with the ameen”, which indicates that he establishes the prayer in a place where people can hear him, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You walk in an ordinary manner and let there be calmness among you. In his saying (peace and blessings be upon him and his family): there is evidence that one walks in a normal manner and does not quicken the pace, as some scholars have recommended. For the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih Ibn Hibban 10:332 does not mean that one quickens the pace, but rather one walks in his usual manner without rushing. If a person comes in this manner, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 635 However, the scholars said that if one fears missing the rak'ah, meaning missing the bowing, there is no harm in hurrying a little, a speed that is not ugly. There is no harm in that, but it should not be a speed that is ugly, causing a commotion and noise. Benefits are derived from this hadith, among them: magnifying the status of the prayer, and that a person should come to it with good manners, humility, calmness, and dignity. Among them: there is no harm in hearing the iqamah from outside the mosque. Accordingly, if the mu'adhdhin establishes the prayer with a microphone so that those outside the mosque can hear it, there is no harm. Even though some people have objected to this, saying that if the iqamah is made from outside the mosque, people become lazy and they do not attend unless they hear the iqamah, and perhaps they miss the first rak'ah or more, depending on their proximity to or distance from the mosque. But since the matter has become like it was in the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and the iqamah is heard from outside, we see that there is no harm in it. However, the thing to be feared regarding sin is what some people do, transmitting the prayer itself from the minaret via the microphone. This disturbs those around them, especially in the night prayer in the loud recitation. It disturbs the people in the houses and the nearby mosques. We have even heard that some people, when they hear the microphone from a nearby mosque and the imam has a good voice and recitation, the ma'mum in that mosque follows with his heart the imam in the second mosque. We have even heard that some of them said ameen when the second mosque said “and not the astray,” and they said, “These people said ameen.” This is not far-fetched, because when the heart is occupied with something, it turns away from others. If they are following the recitation of the neighboring mosque and the imam’s recitation is good in voice and performance, the heart may be distracted from the imam in front of them. It is established in the Muwatta of Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) came out one night and his companions were in the mosque praying and reciting loudly, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Abi Dawud 1332Sahih (Al-Albani) He considered this a nuisance and prohibited it, and reality bears witness to that. Therefore, we see that those who do this, performing the prayer from the minaret via the microphone, if they are disturbing those around them, they are sinful. If this action results in a person being either sinful or safe, there is no doubt that leaving it is better, and in reality, there is no benefit in it. Does a person pray to those who are outside the mosque? He prays to the people of the mosque. As for those outside, you have no concern for them. Also, there is harm in it, which is that if a person is lazy, he thinks, “In the first rak'ah, wait,” so he waits for the second or third rak'ah, or Satan says to him, “Sit down so that only one rak'ah remains,” and he is deprived of the good. For this reason, we advise our brothers, especially the imams, not to do that, and to be safe in their souls and to keep their brothers safe from their nuisance. Even in the evening, even in the houses, perhaps some people have, for example, already prayed and want to sleep and rest. They may be sick and have stayed up all night, and this sound disturbs them. Perhaps the mosque is close to the rooftops in the hot days, and there are children who may be frightened when they hear the sound. The result is that this issue has afflicted some people. We ask Allah to protect us and them. They have become a nuisance to the mosques or houses next to them in a matter of no benefit. And Allah is the One who grants success.
