The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
He (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Chapter on Dignity and Tranquility. Allah the Exalted said:
And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace,
[Al-Furqan 25:63]
And Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) laughing fully so that you could see his gums; he only used to smile. It is agreed upon.”

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*: “Chapter on Dignity and Tranquility”. Dignity is a state in which a servant is characterized by composure, such that when someone sees him, they respect and honor him. Tranquility is the absence of excessive movement and recklessness; rather, one is calm in his heart, his limbs, and his speech. There is no doubt that these two attributes, dignity and tranquility, are among the best qualities by which Allah bestows favor upon a servant. For the opposite of this is for a person to have no personality or awe, and not to be dignified, but rather to be frivolous, having lowered himself and diminished his status. Likewise, the opposite of tranquility is for a person to be full of movement and turning around, with no trace of tranquility seen in his heart, his speech, or his actions. If Allah bestows this upon a servant, he attains two noble character traits. The opposite of this is haste, where a person is hasty, does not seek accuracy, and does not proceed with deliberation; his only concern is the back-and-forth of gossip, which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) forbade, saying:
He also used to forbid idle talk, asking too many questions (in religion), wasting money
Sahih al-Bukhari 6473
If a person is not deliberate and steady in matters, he commits many errors, and people no longer trust his words. He becomes, in the eyes of people, one of those whose speech is rejected and from whom no benefit is derived. Then the author cited the words of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):
And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace,
[Al-Furqan 25:63]
The servants of the Most Merciful, upon whom Allah has bestowed mercy and guided them to good, are those who walk upon the earth in humility. This means that if you see them, you see a man whose gait is dignified, without hastening in a way that is ugly.
and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace,
[Al-Furqan 25:63]
This means they say words by which they are safe from the evil of the ignorant. The meaning is not that they say “Peace” when the ignorant person addresses them, but rather that they say words by which they are safe from his evil. Either they repel him with what is best, or they remain silent if they see that silence is better. The important thing is that they say words by which they are safe, because the ignorant person is difficult; if you argue with him or debate him, he may utter bad words against you, or he may utter bad words against the good you are calling to, cursing the religion, may Allah protect us, and the like. Therefore, among the guidance of the servants of the Most Merciful is that when the ignorant address them, they say “Peace,” meaning they say words by which they are safe and do not incur sin. And among their characteristics is what is mentioned at the end of the verses:
And [they are] those who do not testify to falsehood
[Al-Furqan 25:72]
This means: they do not witness false speech or ugly actions, and when they pass by idle talk that contains neither good nor evil, they pass by it with dignity, meaning they are safe from it. This is because things are either good, evil, or idle. They do not witness evil, they are safe from idle talk by passing by it with dignity, and they dwell in good.
