What is the ruling on eating from the slaughter of the Rafidah, if they mention the name of Allah, or if they invoke a name other than Allah upon it, such as 'Ali and al-Husayn, or the like?

The questioner : We have a letter from one of our brothers from Bahrain, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : He says: The distinguished brothers in the magazine al-Asalah, may Allah preserve them, are directing the question to you, meaning they are asking you.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : He says: The first question: What is the ruling on one who eats from the slaughter of the Rafidah, in both cases: if they mention the name of Allah and invoke it upon the animal, or if they say, "O 'Ali"?

The Shaykh : By Allah, this is a matter that involves sensitivity and extreme precision.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Because if we say, speaking the truth, that this is shirk (associating partners with Allah), then there is no difference between the Rafidi and the one who is called a Sunni: the one who says, "O Muhammad," or says, "O Baz," or "O Badawi," or the like. And there are many of these misguided people. So there is no difference between this and that, because the word Rafidi or Sunni is nothing but names.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : But the important thing is what the names refer to. If we know this reality, we return to say: Is this Sunni, who is called a Sunni, and calls upon other than Allah, and testifies that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and prays and fasts, and so on, but he may not understand the meaning of "There is no god but Allah": either at all, or he understands it incorrectly, as we hear from many of them, even from some of the elite.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Those who interpret this phrase to mean: "There is no Lord but Allah." They are not thereby monotheists.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So do we deal with them based on what we hear from them, as the Messenger (peace be upon him) dealt with the hypocrites, or do we rule that they are apostates and disbelievers, as we hear from some of the distinguished Shaykhs among the monotheists? You think I know my opinion on the subject.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : That most of the common Muslims today do not find in their societies and the environments in which they live anyone to explain to them the word of tawhid (the oneness of Allah), so they say: as they found their fathers.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So do we expel them from the religion?!

The questioner : No.

The Shaykh : My answer is: No.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So if we take the issue as a rule, we say: It should be permissible to eat the slaughter of the Muslim, and I do not say the believer, but the Muslim, who testifies that there is no god but Allah, if he slaughtered it according to the Shari'ah method.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : And we refer his case and the reality of what is in him to Allah.

The questioner : If he said what he said out of ignorance!

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : Yes, exactly.

The Shaykh : This is what I have, and Allah knows best.

The questioner : May Allah strengthen you, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : May Allah preserve you.
