Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa number ( 2393 )
Q 3: If a member of the People of the Book slaughters a sheep as a Muslim does, but does not mention the name of Allah over it ; because they believe in the Trinity, is it permissible to eat from this slaughtered animal?
A 3: If a member of the People of the Book slaughters the animal and we know that he mentioned the name of Allah over it, then it is lawful to eat it, because that falls under the generality of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for youوَطَعَامُ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ حِلٌّ لَكُمْ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:5]
And if we know that he mentioned the name of other than Allah, then it is not lawful to eat it, because that falls under the generality of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is grave disobedience.وَلاَ تَأْكُلُوا مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنَّهُ لَفِسْقٌ
[Al-An'am 6:121]
And in His saying:
and that which has been dedicated to other than Allahوَمَا أُهِلَّ بِهِ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ
[Al-Baqarah 2:173]
And if we do not know whether he mentioned the name of Allah or left it out, then it is permissible to eat from it; because the original ruling is the lawfulness of their slaughtered animals, due to the generality of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for youوَطَعَامُ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ حِلٌّ لَكُمْ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:5]
