The ruling on one who collects books but does not read them

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I am a man—praise be to Allah—who has many beneficial and useful books and references, but I do not read them; rather, I select some of them.
Is there any sin upon me for keeping these books in my house, given that some people take some of the books from me, benefit from them, and then return them?

Answer:
There is no blame on the Muslim for collecting useful books and keeping them in his library for reference and benefit, and to offer them to scholars who visit him so that they may benefit from them. There is no blame on him if he does not review many of them.
As for lending them to trustworthy people who benefit from them, that is prescribed, and it is an act of drawing near to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) because it involves assisting in the acquisition of knowledge; and because it falls under His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He):
cooperate in righteousness and pietyوَتَعَاوَنُواْ عَلَى الْبرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى
[Al-Ma'idah: 2], and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
And Allah is engaged in helping the worshipper as long as the worshipper is engaged in helping his brother.والله في عون العبد ما كان العبد في عون أخيه
