If one catches one rak'ah of the Friday prayer, is the Friday prayer recorded for him?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : We find that many people on Friday, some of them come after the second adhan, and some come even at the end of the khutbah. Is the Friday prayer recorded for them as for one who comes, for example, before the first adhan?

The Shaykh : Yes, the one who catches one rak'ah of the Friday prayer has caught the Friday prayer, and the one who does not catch one rak'ah, it becomes Zuhr.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : ... he did not hear the khutbah.

The Shaykh : I answered you because if he catches one rak'ah, he did not catch the first rak'ah, and consequently he did not catch the khutbah. He (peace be upon him) said:
Whoever catches up with a rak'ah of Jumu'ah prayer has caught up with it. من أدرك من صلاة الجمعة ركعةً فقد أدرك الجمعة
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1425Sahih (Darussalam)
.

The questioner : So the khutbah has no importance then, if I come and I do not want to hear the khutbah, I just pray the two rak'ahs of Friday?

The Shaykh : May Allah forgive you! Say: Ameen.

The questioner: Amen.

The Shaykh : Say: Ameen ... for everyone, if Allah wills.
The Shaykh : This is my brother ... the prayer, in particular among the acts of worship, its rulings differ. Some are a condition or a pillar, and the nature of a condition and a pillar is that the act of worship is not valid, it is invalid, without them. Some of these acts of worship, or parts of the act of worship which is the prayer, are not a condition or a pillar, but are an obligation or a duty. The difference between an obligation (fard) and a duty (wajib) is that the loss of an obligation or a duty does not necessitate the loss of the entire act of worship. Now, let us give an example of what we are in. Our Lord said:
O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade
[Al-Jumu'ah 62:9]
, so it is not permissible for a person, merely because he hears the adhan, to do anything. Buying and selling is invalid and does not take effect, and he goes to the remembrance of Allah (meaning to hear the khutbah), and this is obligatory upon him, but it does not mean that if he misses this obligation, the prayer is invalid; because it is not a pillar of the pillars of the prayer. Do you understand how? Yes. So if we take the verse, we pay attention to hearing the khutbah, especially since we are in most need of it in this time when the ambition of people, young and old, has turned away from knowledge, both learning and teaching.
The Shaykh : I have noticed in some mosques in Damascus that we enter at any time of the prayer and we find circles established at the edges of the mosque, thisThe Shaykh : is teaching his students this hadith, this one is teaching tafsir, this one is teaching fiqh, this one is teaching Arabic grammar, and so on. Now, all the mosques have become empty, and the treatments that are issued by the Ministry of Awqaf are themselves in the manner of Abu Nuwas's treatment: "And I treated it with that which was the disease." The prayer ends, we lock the doors, instead of us coming to encourage people to keep the mosques occupied, and the Messenger (peace be upon him) made it part of the rabitah (waiting) that the Muslim waits for the prayer from one prayer to the second prayer.
The Shaykh : The point is: So we today have become far from Islamic life, completely far. What remains with us? What remains with us are things that are necessary, among them the Friday prayer and the Friday khutbah. So you say: Then there is no necessity to attend the Friday khutbah! There is no necessity to correct the obligation of the Friday prayer, but it is a necessity in itself, separate and distinct, that must be carried out in execution of the previous divine command:
then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade فَاسْعَوْا إِلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَذَرُوا الْبَيْعَ
[Al-Jumu'ah 62:9]
