How authentic is the story of the Ghuraniq?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
It is mentioned in Tafsir al-Jalalayn regarding the reason for the revelation of verse (52) of Surat al-Hajj: that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), while reciting: and Manat, the third and the last [al-Najm:19-20], that Satan threw into his mouth: "Those are the noble Ghuraniq, and their intercession is indeed to be hoped for." Is there anything indicating the authenticity of this story from the hadiths of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), or is it from the Isra'iliyyat? Please inform us—may Allah reward you.
Answer:
As far as I know, there is no authentic hadith that can be relied upon regarding the throwing of these words into his recitation (peace and blessings be upon him), but it was narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in mursal hadiths, as al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir pointed out in his tafsir of the verse in (al-Hajj).
However, Satan's throwing into his recitation (peace and blessings be upon him) in the verses of al-Najm, which is His saying: the verses, is established by the text of the verse in Surat (al-Hajj), which is His saying, the Exalted: [al-Hajj:52]. So His saying, the Exalted: [Al-Hajj 22:52]; meaning: he recited, and His saying, the Exalted: [Al-Hajj 22:52]; meaning: in his recitation.
Then Allah, the Exalted, abrogates what Satan threw and clarifies its invalidity in other verses, and He makes His verses decisive; as a trial and test, as He said, the Exalted, after this:[Al-Hajj 22:53] the verses [al-Hajj:53].
So it is obligatory for every Muslim to beware of what Satan throws of doubts on the tongues of the people of truth and others, and to adhere to the clear truth with clear evidence, and to interpret the ambiguous with the decisive; so that no doubt remains upon him, as Allah, the Exalted, said in the beginning of Surat (Ali 'Imran): [Ali 'Imran:7].
And it is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from the hadith of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that he said:Sahih Muslim 2665 It is agreed upon as authentic. And success is from Allah.
It is mentioned in Tafsir al-Jalalayn regarding the reason for the revelation of verse (52) of Surat al-Hajj: that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), while reciting:
Have you then considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza?

And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet except that when he spoke [or recited], Satan threw into it [some misunderstanding]. But Allah abolishes that which Satan throws in; then Allah makes precise His verses. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.

Then Allah, the Exalted, abrogates what Satan threw and clarifies its invalidity in other verses, and He makes His verses decisive; as a trial and test, as He said, the Exalted, after this:
[That is] so He may make what Satan throws in a trial for those within whose hearts is disease and those hard of heart
So it is obligatory for every Muslim to beware of what Satan throws of doubts on the tongues of the people of truth and others, and to adhere to the clear truth with clear evidence, and to interpret the ambiguous with the decisive; so that no doubt remains upon him, as Allah, the Exalted, said in the beginning of Surat (Ali 'Imran):
It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muhammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise - they are the foundation of the Book - and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]. And no one knows its [true] interpretation except Allah. But those firm in knowledge say, "We believe in it. All [of it] is from our Lord." And no one will be reminded except those of understanding.
And it is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from the hadith of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that he said:
When you see such verses, avoid them, for it is they whom Allah has pointed out (in the mentioned verses).
