Question:
What is the interpretation of the statement of Allah the Exalted:[Ya-Sin 36:38] And the moon, We have measured its mansions, until it returns like the old, dry date-stalk. The sun does not overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day, and each swims in an orbit. [Yasin: 38-40]?
Answer:
The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) explained this noble verse to Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) , and his statement is:[Ya-Sin 36:38]. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned to Abu Dharr, saying: Sahih al-Bukhari 4802. Abu Dharr said: “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: , going and returning by the command of His Lord, Glorified and Exalted is He ; a prostration whose manner is known only to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) .
And all these creatures prostrate to Allah and glorify Him (Exalted and Majestic is He) with a glorification and prostration that He knows (Glorified and Exalted is He), even though we do not know it or comprehend it, as He said : [Al-Isra: 44], and He the Exalted said: [Al-Hajj 22:18] the verse [Al-Hajj: 18].
This prostration is fitting for Him, and no one knows its manner except Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He. Among this is His saying, the Exalted, in Surah (Ar-Ra'd): [Ar-Ra'd: 15].
The sun runs as Allah commanded it; it rises from the east and sets in the west until the end of time. When the Hour approaches, it will rise from the west, and that is among the major signs of the Hour, as the authentic hadiths have been mass-transmitted from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When this world ends and the Resurrection occurs, it will be crumpled, as He, the Exalted, said: [At-Takwir: 1]. It will be crumpled and its light will vanish, and it and the moon will be cast into Hellfire, because the need for them has ceased with the departure of this world.
The point is that it runs to its appointed place, going and returning, and its appointed place is its prostration beneath the Throne in its movement, rising and setting—as mentioned previously in the authentic hadith—that is by the decree of the Almighty, the All-Knowing, and it is He who decreed that for it.
(Al-Aziz), and its meaning is: the One whose majesty is inviolable, the One who prevails over everything, the One who is All-Knowing of the conditions of His creation .
And success is from Allah.
What is the interpretation of the statement of Allah the Exalted:
And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.
Answer:

O Abu Dharr! Do you know where the sun sets?
Its appointed place is that it prostrates beneath the Throne of its Lord (Glorified and Exalted is He).
And all these creatures prostrate to Allah and glorify Him (Exalted and Majestic is He) with a glorification and prostration that He knows (Glorified and Exalted is He), even though we do not know it or comprehend it, as He said :
The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them exalt Him. And there is not a thing except that it exalts [Allah] by His praise, but you do not understand their [way of] exalting. Indeed, He is ever Forbearing and Forgiving.
Do you not see that to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth and the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the moving creatures and many of the people?
This prostration is fitting for Him, and no one knows its manner except Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He. Among this is His saying, the Exalted, in Surah (Ar-Ra'd):
And to Allah prostrates whoever is within the heavens and the earth, willingly or by compulsion, and their shadows [as well] in the mornings and the afternoons.
The sun runs as Allah commanded it; it rises from the east and sets in the west until the end of time.
