The Order of Expiation for Unintentional Killing

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: I am a young man who was involved in an accident in which a person died (may Allah have mercy on him). I want to ask the Shaykh to know the expiation for this, knowing that my share of the accident was 50%, and that I am unable to fast? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer: If a person kills someone unintentionally, he owes an expiation; because Allah the Exalted said:
And never is it for a believer to kill a believer except by mistake. And whoever kills a believer by mistake - then the freeing of a believing slave and a compensation payment presented to the deceased's family [is required] unless they give [up their right as] charityوَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤْمِنٍ أَن يَقْتُلَ مُؤْمِنًا إِلاَّ خَطَئًا وَمَن قَتَلَ مُؤْمِنًا خَطَئًا فَتَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ مُّؤْمِنَةٍ وَدِيَةٌ مُّسَلَّمَةٌ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ إِلاَّ أَن يَصَّدَّقُواْ
[Surat al-Nisa: 92]
And if your share of the responsibility is 50%, then you have killed; so you owe an expiation, which is: freeing a believing slave, and whoever cannot do that must fast for two consecutive months; that is, sixty days—whether he starts from the beginning of the month or the end of the month—sixty consecutive days.
And whoever cannot do that, the expiation remains pending on his account until he is able to do this or that. If he is unable to free a slave, the expiation remains pending until he is able to do this or that.
