Examples of shirk in worship: supplication to other than Allah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : So, any act of worship among the acts of worship that Allah has commanded us, if we direct it to other than Allah, we have associated partners with Allah in worship. This includes calling out and seeking aid: "O Lord, help me" in times of hardship and when a calamity befalls a person. If a Muslim directs such a plea to other than Allah (Mighty and Majestic), he has supplicated to other than Allah and worshipped Him besides Allah. Therefore, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Supplication is worship
,
Supplication is worship
. Then he recited the words of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):
And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.
[Ghafir 40:60]
,
Supplication is worship
. This is on the same basis as his (peace be upon him) saying:
Hajj is 'Arafah
, meaning that it is as if there are no acts or rituals of Hajj other than standing at 'Arafah. And there are certainly many other rituals, but this is due to the eloquence of the Arabic language, as if Hajj is entirely 'Arafah, the head of matters, and the head of the rituals is standing at 'Arafah. Likewise,
Supplication is worship
; that is, as if there is no worship regarding supplication, for the best of all acts of worship is supplication. If a Muslim directs this fundamental act, which is supplication, to other than Allah (Mighty and Majestic), he has worshipped other than Allah because of this supplication to other than Allah. Thus, he has fallen into shirk in servitude and has not made Allah (Mighty and Majestic) unique in His divinity and servitude. This is a summary of the meaning of worship, which a person must direct to Allah alone, having no partner. You are aware of the details of the acts of worship, so strive to be sincere to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in them and do not direct any of them to any created being, however high or exalted it may be. Therefore, the scholars of the Muslims agreed, in order to achieve the sincerity of worship to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), that it is not permissible to swear by a created being that is revered by one. It is not permissible to swear by the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), nor is it permissible to swear by the Ka'bah, the Sacred House, or the Sacred Masha'ir, all of which contradicts the sincerity to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in His worship.
