Returning to Sin After Repenting from It

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I am a student of knowledge and I love Allah and His Messenger, but I am afflicted with a major sin. I do not cease to repent from it until I return to it. Every time I renew my resolve to leave it, I find myself falling into it after a few months. This has persisted with me for years. I hope to find a successful solution and a certain cure from you. Please advise us, may Allah reward you.

Answer:
It is obligatory for you to be truthful with Allah, and be glad with good news if you repent. So be truthful, account for yourself, and ask your Lord for success and assistance, and do not follow the desires. Strive against your self. Allah says:
And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our waysوَالَّذِينَ جَاهَدُوا فِينَا لَنَهْدِيَنَّهُمْ سُبُلَنَا
[Al-'Ankabut: 69], and He the Exalted says:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way outوَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا
[Al-Talaq: 2],
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him of his matter ease.وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ يُسْرًا
[Al-Talaq: 4]
So it is obligatory for you to fear Allah, and do not let the enemy of Allah, Satan, play with you. When you repent, stick to repentance and beware of returning. If you return a second time, let your caution be stricter so that you do not return a third time. As for being played with by Satan, that is a sign of weak faith, weak strength, and weak insight. So fear Allah, watch over your relationship with Allah, and strive against your self so that you do not return to disobedience. We ask Allah for guidance and success for us and for you.
